Fatema Harianawala, MA, LPC, RPT
We’ve all faced painful and challenging situations in life. Constant struggles, relationship
issues, coping with parenting challenges, guilt, dealing with memories we wish we didn’t
have. I value supporting individuals through these life transitions and take into account
the cultural and individual differences in a client’s circumstance. I see therapy as an
opportunity to work toward growth, self-discovery and healing.
I have been in the mental health field for about 15 years. I am a registered play
therapist, certified anger management specialist with training in parenting, substance
abuse and domestic violence including therapeutic approaches and intervention
training. I have worked with both individuals as well as parents and their child(ren) to
improve their parenting skills and family functioning.
As a registered play therapist, I utilize child-centered play therapy. Play therapy allows
children to communicate through their natural language of play. It allows children to
explore and resolve issues while understanding and mastering their world. Play therapy
is a process in which children are given the opportunity to work through past or current
difficulties. I utilize techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness and
solution focused therapy to assist in the facilitation of the change process with
adolescents and adults. My approach is nonjudgmental, empathetic and a collaborative
one. My goal is to create a supportive environment in which my clients can explore their
emotional needs and overcome barriers that limit their full potential. I look forward to
helping you navigate life’s transitions.
